August 11th, 2003, Beaverton, Oregon Wil Wheaton to appear at Powell's Books.
Wil Wheaton will appear at Powell's Books in
Beaverton, Oregon on Wednesday August 13, 2003 to read selections from Dancing Barefoot and autograph copies of the book for fans.
This event follows Wheaton's July appearance at Powell's Technical store in Portland, Oregon, which drew the highest crowd in that store's history, resulting in a sell-out of his current book, Dancing Barefoot. To ensure all attendees are able to leave with a signed copy, Powell's has increased their initial order of 125 to 200. A Powell's spokesperson told Monolith Press that 18 copies had sold in one afternoon, and that fans were eager to meet Wheaton.
Wheaton said, "Monolith Press is a small, independent publisher, and so far
we've been ignored by the big chains like Borders and Barnes & Noble. Powell's showed their independent spirit, and took a chance with Dancing Barefoot. It was a gamble, for sure, but it's paid off tremendously for all of us."
Readers from Wheaton's website are travelling from as far away as Seattle to attend the event and meet the author.
"I don't know what to say--I never thought this little book would sell so well," Wheaton enthusiastically said, "the sales rank at Amazon keeps climbing -- it was at 500 earlier today, up from 3200 yesterday -- and I just found out that it's the best selling paperback at Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego, and the best selling book in its category at Powell's, too. Powell's is the largest indie book seller in the universe! I'm ahead of William Gibson! I know it won't last forever, but right now, I'm deliriously happy. This is a dream come true for me."
